2. Any moron can see through the “retun on empty” policy. 100% of the time you pay for unused gas. THis the THEFT! you should require companies you promote to be fair with their customers. There is nothing you can do about it as a customer, your trapped! It’s literally impossible to return a car on empty. TOTALLY UNETHICAL! shame.
Desventajas: Was in unhappy with how third party liability insurance was handled in Cancun. Total rental was almost double what was advertised.
Desventajas: Mandatory Mexican liability insurance is not included in price and ranges from 10-25 USD, depending on how much they like you.
To good to be true...
Desventajas: When I reserved the car, it did not mention anything about adding Insurance coverage and deposit. I thought I was getting an amazing deal, but turns out that you can't just rent the car for what was advertised online. It was mandatory to add the extra insurance and the deposit.
When we returned the car, we advised staff of flight and were dropped off at the wrong terminal. We ended up having to pay $300 pesos to get to the correct terminal in the box of time.
Ventajas: The rental process was so easy and had no hassle. The employees are AWESOME!
Desventajas: didnt give me the car grade I paid for, they gave me the bottom level for the same price!

We specifically asked for a Jeep during the initial phone call rental arrangements, and were told that they would have one of three models available with no problem. The initial vehicle had obviously low air pressure in the front tires, and they have no ability to add air, or even check the air pressure, at the facility.
The worst was the unexpected pricing. I will be filing a dispute claim with Alamo today because of the excessive charges that built up throughout the rental process, resulting in over $525.00 for a 4 day rental of a small Jeep. Unacceptable.

Horrible experience
Desventajas: Our flight was delayed and they cancelled our reservation. Agent at the counter offered an alternative with another company (something nded like something under the table) for five times the cost of my original reservation. In the end we were left without a car.

Ventajas: Even though I reluctantly paid for the extra insurance despite having coverage through the credit card, the whole experience was easy and pleasant and I can't really complain. Everyone we dealt with was exceptional.

Dishonest Staff National

Desventajas: 1.I reserved, via Kayak.com, an “intermediate SUV or similar” for six (6) days in Cancun, Mexico for $110.08. the reservation said that it included “all taxes and fee”.
2.When I arrive I was told I had to purchase 3rd party insurance for 50 dollar a day. When I questioned the teller I determined that the legal minimum was really $26.00 per day (6*26+ 18% tax=$184.08. This more than doubled by initial reservation price. My new expected total is $294.08, wait it gets better.
3.The first SUV they checked out did not have a working seat beat. The second car they tried to put us in would not start at all. Finally the 3rd vehicle, a minivan, had working seatbelts and would start. The AC was struggling but we had to get going so we accepted it. I took pictures of the first two vehicles but by the 3rd van I was tired and forgot to take picture with my phone for later reference/proof; this will be important later. This process took 2 hours to pickup our “SUV”. This wasted daylight as I had to drive 5 hours to Merida that afternoon.
4.For Six (6) days the van was mediocre adequate for our needs.
5.I return the vehicle with a full tank of gas; I take a video of the exterior and Interior. The attendant filled out the damage assessment as “all good” but missing the front license plate. He stated that it was a $50 US dollar charge. I didn’t have picture showing the plate there or not; so I signed the report stating such. I was willing to eat a 50 dollar charge.
6.I was not given a copy of the report showing “no damage”
7.I was not given a final bill.
8.They said that everything was fine and I would receive an email with the bill later. I never did.
9.My credit card was billed $606.08 vs Kayak reservation price of $110.08.
10.I am currently working with my credit card, Discover, who are doing an awesome job disputing this fraudulent bill. I also called National US customer service and was able to determine the extra charge was from a $300 (5000 Pesos) charge due to "damage". Remember I was told everything was good, no damage. Right dishonest staff.
My advice is to search online to read the reviews prior to renting in Cancun. National is one of the worst. Taxis and Uber appear to be the way to go to avoid the bait and switch.
Know about renting in mexico
Ventajas: National was great! The sales rep was really nice and honest which is rare for a car rental place.
Desventajas: Realize in Mexico you have to get insurance which adds to your rate. Actually US insurance companies often don't cover cars in Mexico so it's best to get full coverage. Adds like 30 per day.
All good, except for dropoff
Ventajas: Pickup was efficient, car was great.
Desventajas: Delay at dropoff because they couldn't find my credit card. It took awhile but the staff person was helpful.

Desventajas: You must bring proof of third party liability coverage if you do not wish to purchase any insurance. Our 9 day rental was to cost US$46.18 through priceline. Since we did not bring proof of third party liability, we paid over US$280. This should be listed under 'important information' in the booking itinerary. Not cool.

Desventajas: I arrived later than the time that I had booked the car for and they had given it away and had no alternatives. I had to go elsewhere and pay a lot more. My fault maybe, but they should be clearer about the policy.
Waited 2 hours for shuttle and paid 50% more than
Ventajas: Car was clean, and drop off was easy.
Desventajas: Waited 2 hours at the Cancun airport for the National Shuttle to arrive. Guy kept saying it should be here any minute. We could have walked there and back 10 times if he would have told us where it was.
When we finally got to the rental car office, they told us our quote did not include insurance that was mandatory. Even though all other rental car companies did include this in their quote.
Then, tried to give us a lower level car than what we booked for the same price. I was at least able to pull up the confirmation email to show the car level I had booked.
After all of this, we ended up losing 4 hours of our vacation and paying 50% more that expected. Totally going with Hertz next time. Saw shuttles every 5 minutes, and quoted us a lower price at the airport and assured it was with the mandatory insurance.

Desventajas: Sketchy, dark parking lot during pickup. Oddly tiny drop-off location with no parking, sharing space with a gas station. Old car in need of tire balance.

Desventajas: The vehicles are not serviced regularly. I was given a Chevy sedan with a broken clutch. When I complained they told me I could only get an automatic vehicle if I paid extra. The location is terrible. Will never rent a car here ever again.

Ventajas: Everyone was super friendly and helpful, great great team of employees. As a solo female driver I always look at for my safety, the team was very respectful and made me feel safe and take care of! They gave me directions and even travel tips!
One way or another you're going to end up paying the rate they want
Ventajas: Everything about Enterprise is great as long as you don't mind they are not located at the airport but just a bit north of the airport along the main highway.
Desventajas: I had a seemingly very good deal for a Jetta including the mandatory liability insurance, but it turned out when picking up the car that the included insurance only covered the car up to 75,000 MXN and the coverage needs to be 2,500,000 MXN so that raised the rates by $10 per day and then I also had to pay an extra $30 for an extra day although my pickup date/time and return date/time were basically what I originally entered into Expedia. I'm positive that all the agencies are playing these monetary shell games so the only distinguishing factor across agencies is the level of service and how picky they are about the condition of the car when returned.
Ventajas: I accidentally booked a manual transmission, and at the counter the man switched us to an automatic brand new car. Their airport shuttle was ready and waiting both times, they were friendly and very helpful. I didn't feel bamboozled by the insurance situation. It was breezy renting from this Enterprise. Would totally rent from them again.

Desventajas: Insurance is 3x the cost of the car rental. No E Plus points. No ability to make a reservation using E Plus points. This place licenses the Enterpprise brand - as do many non-USA locations.
NOT LOCATED BY THE AIRPORT, SURPRISE YOU WITH "REQUIRED" INSURANCE
Ventajas: Car itself was clean and functional.
Desventajas: - I selected this location because it was in the airport. It is not. It is a 15 minute bus ride away. There is a shuttle, but I only found out about the shuttle at the airport, because I couldn't find their office, and it helped that I speak Spanish fluently.
- When you make the reservation on the website, there is nothing stating that you have to buy their insurance. Yet when I got there they gave me no option. They say my credit card doesn't cover it. Had I known, I could have been prepared to show the necessary insurance policy to show my coverage. The insurance was 3 times more than the actual rental rate.
- Not at all what I thought I was getting in terms of price, convenience or location.
Kayak you need to take responsibility and update your site as it currently has incorrect and inaccurate information, which I depended on when making my reservation.

Nobody called me. Nobody mat me at the airport nobody notified me. I called company and they were closed already.
I end up to rent fromHertz with 100$ more price.
Desventajas: Falsely advertised at $2 per day. I was forced to buy 22$ per day insurance.
Then gas tank would not fill meter past 1/2. Scam to get you to put more money in tank.
Best car rental experience I've had in mexico
Ventajas: Friendly shuttle driver and super friendly rental agent. You just have to get over the fact that any time you rent in Mexico, you are required to buy liability coverage, which always feels like highway robbery. This is true with every rental company. If you can't get over this, then you should not rent in Mexico.

Desventajas: They will say they are charging you one price but charge you another. Be very careful with this place. It will not be a lot of money but still be carful!!

Absolutely infuriating to be surprised with this tremendous rate differencce, and found ourselves in a position of helplessness last minute. Would never rent again here.

Ventajas: They communicated clearly via email before we arrived. The rental was inexpensive. I used my Amex card for insurance and there was no pressure to buy more insurance. They simply placed the $2500 hold on my card. The car ran fine and we had a great trip! We took lots of pictures when we picked the car up and had no problems with the drop off.
Desventajas: Basically forced us to take the additional insurance at $45 per day. If declined they wanted a $3000 deposit on the car.

In Cancun our flight arrived late at night. I knew arriving late at night might be problematic, but Dollar had reassured me that someone would be available to help us and that they'd shuttle us from the terminal to our vehicle. Well, it was 12:30AM and I couldn't find anyone at or near the terminal to shuttle us. I called 6 times, over 30 minutes, to the number provided and it would just ring endlessly. We finally had to pay for a taxi to take us to the Dollar location about 1/2 mile from the terminal. Finally I was able to talk to someone and drive away with a vehicle at 1:30AM.

Ventajas: All employees were polite and friendly and spoke emough English to explain our various options for the required Mexican car insurance. The car was clean and available more ot less immediately when we got through the check-in process. No shuttle bus required as the business is just a 1-minute walk across the street grom the airport terminal building. The prices were the lowest we found.
Desventajas: Checkout paperwork took a lot longer than you can believe even though nobody was in line ahead of us, so allow yourself extra time to make it to your flight.

Desventajas: The price at first was ridiculously cheap online like $5.00 for 5 days, when we got there at the rental the price skyrocketed like $70.00 a day they informed us we should get insurance because the car might be stolen or if it was scratched by someone. With much negotiating we got the car reduced to a somewhat reasonable price of $39 a day. Then when you think you are getting your car you get someone who tries to convince you to go to a timeshare to get your car paid in full. It was stressful but we had a nice trip and the car worked out to be a good car. We didn't do the timeshare from past experience so it cost us near $300 which is a fair deal.

Dollar in Cancun REQUIRES rental insurance so it turned out to be 5x the price of the advertised rental. Even though I have insurance through my credit card and privately, they require the insurance.

Ventajas: The car, Volkswagen Gol was almost in excellent condition and I had unlimited miles to drive. The shuttle was easy to find and board. And friendly people.
Desventajas: The stereo in the car wasn’t working, unfortunately there was a hidden fee for car insurance that thankfully was refundable but unknown to me that I had to pay, the staff took incredibly long when helping customers to pick up their car but maybe that’s a good thing for the person they are helping, perhaps they could use more agents. This is at the Cancun rental building.

Desventajas: They "wash" the car right before giving it to you and while it looks shiny when they hand it over, it left a gross residue that made visibility through all the windows horrendous. I probably used most of the washer fluid cleaning the windshield every time we went anywhere and night driving was frankly dangerous with the amount we could see. Additionally, we were given just half a tank and instructed to return it with half a tank. So annoying. The whole establishment was poorly organized.

Our flight was delayed 2 hrs and when we got to Cancun airport the person told us that he was out of our mid-size car and that we would have to take this tiny car for the same price that we had already paid. Or we could upgrade to a larger car and pay considerably more. Since we couldn't fit into the tiny car we chose the larger car, a Nissan Versa. A nice car, but to me that is an intermediate car. In fact it's smaller than an intermediate car. So we got an acceptable car, but paid twice the price plus the insurance add-on. If a fee is more than 100% of the cost, shouldn't that be disclosed?

Desventajas: This location is staffed with a bunch of crooks. They rented me a car with less than half a tank of gas and said to return it with the same amount...but how do you know how much to fill it up to get to 3/8 of a tank, i asked for a full tank and they refused. AT the end of my 2 day rental i returned the car full of gas and then noticed I was being charged more than what the online reservation quote I was given. I asked to have the charge adjusted and showed then my reservation, but they refused to change to charge. I will never rent from this Budget location ever again!!

Ventajas: I was glad it was possible to rent a car in Mexico. The car was clean and a familiar make and model, so driving wasn’t hard.
Desventajas: We were quoted $15 when I made the reservation. When we went to pick up the car, we were told that was the price we would pay IF we bought $2,000 in insurance coverage. We bought the minimum we could and the rental alone came out to $130 for 4 days and a $200 hold for insurance. I feel like this needed to be indicated up front when making the reservation so we could have been prepared. Since we were renting in Mexico, we were concerned we were being shook-down for money. Knowing up-front all the details and potential costs would allow us to better plan our trip expenses. Also, it would have been nice to have been able to make an up-front payment online through Kayak or Budget’s websites and avoided handing over our credit card in a foreign country.

Desventajas: The car I originally signed up for I couldn’t get due their not being enough of those cars. I got a crappy dodge attitude brakes and shocks were blown and bunch of ants inside the car.

watch for insurance
Ventajas: The airport meet and pick up was great. The port drop off was good too.
Desventajas: At pick up we had reserved a Chevy Tahoe. We got a dodge journey, which is hardly similar. Then they pushed the insurance so hard I had to call my credit card company to get a letter sent verifying I had coverage, then they still authorized $15,000.00 (yes, fifteen thousand USD) on my card. The counter man in Cozumel, and lady in Playa del Carmen could not have been less friendly.

Desventajas: I quoted for a car with a different drop-off place, got charged for it in advanced and when I arrived to the dealer in charged in mexico for the rental of Economy Rental who are not them, but America Car Rental they wanted to charge me an extra for the drop off.
America said they couldn't give me the car until I signed and payed the different location option and that Economy should be the one responding, tried to speak with Economy but was not possible to communicate and said kayak was responsable for that and I could never get them on the phone...

Desventajas: The list goes on and on, but the horrible customer service and the ridiculous over charges are just the beginning. They charged us almost double the agreed on rate for "insurance" or suggested we pay for the total value of the car!! Basically, it's giant rip off scheme.
Hidden Fees
Ventajas: The rental company would have gotten 5 stars if they would simply be upfront about the real price and all the hidden fees . At the end of the day the car was fine and the shuttle service no problems. Just don’t like arriving to get your car and being told that you have to sign up for insurance or they will place an $18,000 hold on your credit card while you are on vacation. And if you choose to get the basic insurance they will then only place an $8000 hold on your credit card!!!! So they force you into the maximum insurance package which only places a $690 hold on you card. Just as a business owner I would never treat my customers like that.
These guys are a joke
Ventajas: Nothing. We were so mad by their not honoring the reservation cost we’d paid, that we ended up having to book with a different company.
Desventajas: They won’t honor your reservation quote and will ask you to pay way more.
Ventajas: Shuttle service was ok, somewhat confusing on where to meet driver. Drop off of rental and shuttle to airport was as it should be efficient and easy.
Desventajas: 1. Personal liability insurance requirement not disclosed at $35/day. This is not covered by any credit card or personal auto insurance in Mexico. Pay it or they will drive you back to airport. You may be able to get a Rider on your own insurance for personal liability in Mexico, bring proof of policy. I will do this next time just to stick it to them. They tease you in with low rates and then stick it to you with the liability insurance!
2. Received vehicle on empty.
3. Rental company is actually American Car Rental, not Economy, in Mexico.
4. Credit card got skimmed same day multiple fraud purchases. It was the only place I used the card that day in Mexico.
Stay away
Ventajas: The advertised price looked good.
Desventajas: Upon arrival they would not accept my international rental insurance. I travel frequently for business and have good international car rental coverage. After speaking to a manager the reluctantly would accept it but stated that I should be cautioned that i would be responsible for any damage. It was presented as a threat and I felt that they would fund a way to charge me for something upon return. So I agreed to purchase additional coverage.
That was the better part.... Upon arrival I was charged an additional fee for fuel. When i picker up the van it had a little under a half tank. I returned it a little over a quarter tank. I expected a possible modest fee. I was charged 750 pesos. About 4p use. Excessive but fine...what really got me was the late fee. When setting up the rental months ago I selected the travel dates, pick up and return times. Anyone who travels knows that these are never exact and change as flights change. I was 1 and a half hours late for the return. I am not sure what the fee was but I was floored and could not believe the were trying to pull more cash out of me after arguing over the excessive fuel charge.
No I didn't get credit for picking up the vehicle late.
Really poor customer service from America Car rental Cancun
Mexico rental car rates and insurance rates very misleading!
Ventajas: Car was new and clean.
Desventajas: While booking through the car rental site prior to our visit i was quoted and made a reservation for 8 days for $135. It suggested no additional fees or insurance were required.
I always decline additional insurance when in central America as I hold full coverage through my credit card provider. They however refused to rent me the car without paying their expensive insurance premium.
This was a serious inconvenience we did not budget for!! The additional insurance costs incurred brought our estimated rental cost from $135 all the way to $466!!!

Desventajas: Where to begin... you can pretty much triple the internet price since they MAKE you buy their overpriced insurance. I guess the liability insurance offered by my credit card was not good enough for them. They have high pressure sales people in their location that try to push timeshare offers down your throat... once you get in your car well its very dirty and smells terrible. It had 45K km on it and all sorts of warning lights on. OK... forgot to mention that the car was completely empty of gas. Overall terrible experience. Desventajas: The car I originally signed up for I couldn’t get due their not being enough of those cars. I got a crappy dodge attitude brakes and shocks were blown and bunch of ants inside the car.

Ventajas: The airport meet and pick up was great. The port drop off was good too.
Desventajas: At pick up we had reserved a Chevy Tahoe. We got a dodge journey, which is hardly similar. Then they pushed the insurance so hard I had to call my credit card company to get a letter sent verifying I had coverage, then they still authorized $15,000.00 (yes, fifteen thousand USD) on my card. The counter man in Cozumel, and lady in Playa del Carmen could not have been less friendly.

Desventajas: I quoted for a car with a different drop-off place, got charged for it in advanced and when I arrived to the dealer in charged in mexico for the rental of Economy Rental who are not them, but America Car Rental they wanted to charge me an extra for the drop off.
America said they couldn't give me the car until I signed and payed the different location option and that Economy should be the one responding, tried to speak with Economy but was not possible to communicate and said kayak was responsable for that and I could never get them on the phone...

Ventajas: Car was drivable.
Desventajas: The list goes on and on, but the horrible customer service and the ridiculous over charges are just the beginning. They charged us almost double the agreed on rate for "insurance" or suggested we pay for the total value of the car!! Basically, it's giant rip off scheme.
Hidden Fees
Ventajas: The rental company would have gotten 5 stars if they would simply be upfront about the real price and all the hidden fees . At the end of the day the car was fine and the shuttle service no problems. Just don’t like arriving to get your car and being told that you have to sign up for insurance or they will place an $18,000 hold on your credit card while you are on vacation. And if you choose to get the basic insurance they will then only place an $8000 hold on your credit card!!!! So they force you into the maximum insurance package which only places a $690 hold on you card. Just as a business owner I would never treat my customers like that.

Ventajas: Nothing. We were so mad by their not honoring the reservation cost we’d paid, that we ended up having to book with a different company.
Desventajas: They won’t honor your reservation quote and will ask you to pay way more.
Ventajas: Shuttle service was ok, somewhat confusing on where to meet driver. Drop off of rental and shuttle to airport was as it should be efficient and easy.
Desventajas: 1. Personal liability insurance requirement not disclosed at $35/day. This is not covered by any credit card or personal auto insurance in Mexico. Pay it or they will drive you back to airport. You may be able to get a Rider on your own insurance for personal liability in Mexico, bring proof of policy. I will do this next time just to stick it to them. They tease you in with low rates and then stick it to you with the liability insurance!

3. Rental company is actually American Car Rental, not Economy, in Mexico.
4. Credit card got skimmed same day multiple fraud purchases. It was the only place I used the card that day in Mexico.
Stay away
Ventajas: The advertised price looked good.
Desventajas: Upon arrival they would not accept my international rental insurance. I travel frequently for business and have good international car rental coverage. After speaking to a manager the reluctantly would accept it but stated that I should be cautioned that i would be responsible for any damage. It was presented as a threat and I felt that they would fund a way to charge me for something upon return. So I agreed to purchase additional coverage.
That was the better part.... Upon arrival I was charged an additional fee for fuel. When i picker up the van it had a little under a half tank. I returned it a little over a quarter tank. I expected a possible modest fee. I was charged 750 pesos. About 4p use. Excessive but fine...what really got me was the late fee. When setting up the rental months ago I selected the travel dates, pick up and return times. Anyone who travels knows that these are never exact and change as flights change. I was 1 and a half hours late for the return. I am not sure what the fee was but I was floored and could not believe the were trying to pull more cash out of me after arguing over the excessive fuel charge.
No I didn't get credit for picking up the vehicle late.
Really poor customer service from America Car rental Cancun
Mexico rental car rates and insurance rates very misleading!
Ventajas: Car was new and clean.
Desventajas: While booking through the car rental site prior to our visit i was quoted and made a reservation for 8 days for $135. It suggested no additional fees or insurance were required.
I always decline additional insurance when in central America as I hold full coverage through my credit card provider. They however refused to rent me the car without paying their expensive insurance premium.
This was a serious inconvenience we did not budget for!! The additional insurance costs incurred brought our estimated rental cost from $135 all the way to $466!!!
OVER 3 TIMES THE QUOTED PRICE!
IMO this is an unacceptable practice. These things need to be disclosed at time of booking.... NOT when you arrive at the rental agency.
Over all this made our experience with AMERICA's Car rental (subsidiary of Economy i take it?), very unpleasant . I will doubtfully use them again on our next trip.

I guess the liability insurance offered by my credit card was not good enough for them. But when we got there they added on insurances that we knew was covered under our credit card so it amounted to a whopping $350 dollars. I would call these rental agencies before.

Having done a considerable amount of online price comparisons (including up to 4 days before our trip), I knew the best price for a minivan ranged from approximately $150 to $225 (w/o insurance) at several of the car rental companies at the Cancun Airport. When, I showed these online quotes to Europcar, the agent said I could walk to another rental agency. This was not an option with multiple large bags, a young child, and the need to meet the rest of our group in downtown Cancun. With no other option, I had to settle for the minivan. Ultimately another member of our group was forced to rent a passenger van (at full price) from another agency. Although I was able to negotiate a moderate discount for the minivan (after approximately 45 minutes with the agent), Europcar's failure to provide the vehicle I reserved ended up costing me several hundred more dollars for the vehicles I needed.

Desventajas: The check out process took four hours - we arrived before 9am and didn't leave until after 1pm - and we left with a much smaller vehicle than we had requested, but still paid not only for the larger vehicle, but twice the rental in additional insurance which we came to find out was mandatory for Mexico - very poor expectation management! We would have preferred an upgrade, but despite our confirmed reservation, the agency had no suitable vehicles for four people with luggage available. The best they could offer was that we could come back the following day to upgrade to a mini-van for 3 times the rental cost, but due to our travel plans, coming back the next day was not an option. This wasn't the worst of it though. On the third day of our 21 day rental, we got a flat tire. When we changed the tire, we noted that the spare appeared to be a regular tire. When we took off the flat, we were shocked to find it bald with less than 1/8" treads left, and unbalanced to such an extent that the tire could not stand on its own - it is a miracle that we didn't have a blow out rather than a simple flat. When we called the rental company to tell them that we had had to change the flat out and that we wanted the spare replaced, we were told that we would have to buy a brand new tire, at our own expense, despite the fact that we had been forced to purchase three types of additional insurance on top of providing them with a written letter of liability coverage from our own insurance company and the credit card company we used to pay for the rental, which also provided liability, collision and roadside coverage for the rental. This reeks of scam! They put a worn and dangerous tire on the rental car they sent us out in and then demanded that we buy a brand new tire as back up for the 18 remaining day of our 21 day rental. We brought the vehicle in to a tire repair station and had the flat tire repaired. As it turned out, it had already been patched several times, as had two of the other tires which we had refilled with air and also repaired as both were losing air due to wear and poor previous repairs, all at our own expense and in addition to the double insurance fees we'd been charged when we picked up the car. We had no additional incidents for the remainder of the rental and the return was uneventful, however, this company was dishonest, deceitful and I would not recommend them. We will certainly never rent from them again!

According to the Europcar agent, every renter MUST pay a mandatory insurance imposed by the Mexican government, which is not covered by one's credit card car insurance. I ended up paying $231.17 USD (for 4 days total) instead of the $40 USD as shown on the website. On the other side, the car I had requested wasn't available and I had to pay a higher price than actually expected because the categories in Europcar (luxury, suv, van, for example) differ from the ones shown on the website. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with the lack of accurate information that Kayak provided me with and will never use this service again!

They required two insurance forms from my bank before they'd allow me to utilize the theft and damage coverage that is available automatically through my credit card. My bank knew of one of the forms, not the second. I'm currently challenging my credit card company to claim the excessive insurance fee.

Desventajas: No one told me the car rental location was ten minutes away from airport. I had to call for someone for a shuttle to car rental place from airport. Had to wait about 20 minutes. Other than that everything was great.

Desventajas: Radio didn't work, Car was banged up everywhere, automatic nothing including windows, mid size car was actually only for 4 passengers. Car had over 90k miles on it. Paid at least twice the quoted amount after fees and insurance.

Desventajas: We reserved a 12 passenger van. They didn't have this and had to give us 2 separate vehicles and promised us they would bring us the van in the next 2 days. This didn't happen and we had to make contact again and FINALLY got the van we had reserved. Kayak quoted us $250 and the actual price was $680.
I will never rent from Payless again
Desventajas: The man who rented to us at the Tulum outlet (Elias) was extremely rude and condescending. I never complain but this was beyond anything I had experienced before. The car we were given did not start after two days and we had to take it back. Elias was not there when we switched cars but we were told to see him for a refund on all of the gas we had put in the car that was no longer starting. The night we dropped off the car that wouldn't start, the man working there couldn't even move the car because the starter was so dead. Elias said there was nothing wrong with the car and then said "this kind of thing always happens with people like you". He said we were lying about the car and although he eventually did, he did not want to reimburse us for the 250 pesos of gas that we were owed.
He was rude and believed that having a string tied to the broken door handle in the car was also acceptable. He is a total crook and we will not be back.

Desventajas: It took nearly two hours to get our reserved car. There were only two people on line in front of me, both of whom also had a reserved car so it was not a matter of long lines or customers with complicated problems. Also they oversell an overly expensive insurance package.

When I told him my Amex platinum covers the extra cost for insurance he told me to find another company (3 miles back & hour wasted). I asked him to charge me in pesos he said no. Their exchange rate over 10% the going rate. Even then total was 28 pesos higher. When I told him he was going to give me a return credit I told him don't bother Key fob didn't work and when I brought it to a different payless he wanted me to pay for a new battery (when I got mad he relented). I had to fill gas tank higher than I got it. Was told I could return it anywhere in Cancun but when I did they charged me an extra 250 pesos. There's more but I just want ro say this was the worst rental I have EVER done. Totally unacceptable.

Ventajas: It had 4 wheels.
Desventajas: We reserved a 12 passenger van. They didn't have this and had to give us 2 separate vehicles and promised us they would bring us the van in the next 2 days. This didn't happen and we had to make contact again and FINALLY got the van we had reserved. Kayak quoted us $250 and the actual price was $680.
I will never rent from Payless again
Desventajas: The man who rented to us at the Tulum outlet (Elias) was extremely rude and condescending. I never complain but this was beyond anything I had experienced before. The car we were given did not start after two days and we had to take it back. Elias was not there when we switched cars but we were told to see him for a refund on all of the gas we had put in the car that was no longer starting. The night we dropped off the car that wouldn't start, the man working there couldn't even move the car because the starter was so dead. Elias said there was nothing wrong with the car and then said "this kind of thing always happens with people like you". He said we were lying about the car and although he eventually did, he did not want to reimburse us for the 250 pesos of gas that we were owed.
He was rude and believed that having a string tied to the broken door handle in the car was also acceptable. He is a total crook and we will not be back.
Not Great Service
Ventajas: Staff was friendly
Desventajas: It took nearly two hours to get our reserved car. There were only two people on line in front of me, both of whom also had a reserved car so it was not a matter of long lines or customers with complicated problems. Also they oversell an overly expensive insurance package.
Too expensive
Ventajas: People was kind.
Desventajas: Too expensive for a small car. Price was viven when I was in the place. I asked around and there are better rent a car options. Never rent with payless again.

Ventajas: There was a person at the airport counter
Desventajas: So many problems. They are 3 miles from the airport which makes a difference when they overcharge by 4+ times the price i signed up for. When I told him my Amex platinum covers the extra cost for insurance he told me to find another company (3 miles back & hour wasted). I asked him to charge me in pesos he said no. Their exchange rate over 10% the going rate. Even then total was 28 pesos higher. When I told him he was going to give me a return credit I told him don't bother Key fob didn't work and when I brought it to a different payless he wanted me to pay for a new battery (when I got mad he relented). I had to fill gas tank higher than I got it. Was told I could return it anywhere in Cancun but when I did they charged me an extra 250 pesos. There's more but I just want ro say this was the worst rental I have EVER done. Totally unacceptable.
Desventajas: I rented the car by internet to pick it up at Cancun airport and I received a call the day before my flight and I explained him that my scheduled flight is for Thursday and I was supposed to pick up the car Friday then he told me to pick up the car at “flamingo plaza” in Cancun instead airport at 12:00 I was there and the person in charge told me that he didn't have my contract don’t even in the system after a few minutes dealing with that he found that my car was placed in somewhere place I paid a taxi round trip to look for it.
At the spot that I pick up the car supposed to be a suburban, Tahoe or Yukon we got a journey.
Asked us for a $30k deposit for a used Grand Caravan....LOL. Clowns
Desventajas: Ya, you read that right, $30k deposit. Not in midst of arguing about something else but as part of a welcome, here is your car and this is the deposit requirement. They also require about $100 per day in local insurance. These guys are clowns. Cars looked old and beat up. Location is 4 to 6 miles away from airport, down some industrial road. Good luck trying to get a taxi to take you elsewhere. No taxis and no phone number to call for a taxi. Also, no one answers at EZ cust service. Getting trapped is an understatement. Stay away from EZ. Go with a reputable company like Enterprise, Avis, National, etc.

Desventajas: I have ordered Chevrolet Tahoe or similar and I got just Jeep Wrangler what is way smaller and I have huge problem to fit all our luggage into car....

This is not 5 minutes from airport like advertised. Consider 15 minutes transportation from airport to pick up location.

Desventajas: In Cancún the service is provided by AMERICA car rental. Coordinating the pickup was difficult, we lost about an hour waiting and arranging, the guy on the phone was a little bit rude. After we were brought to the office, we had to wait another hour because they had more customers in the line. They try to force you to take their insurance by putting a deposit of $7000 for a compact car if you want to use your own insurance.
I booked a Dodge Avenger and they offered a VM Gol and I was told it was one of the newest cars: it was a lie. The car had scratches everywhere, it was dirty with stains on the roof, broken pieces, seat couldn't be adjusted and had noises while driving.
Desventajas: No incluia en el precio publicado el seguro del auto. Lo cual eleva a más del doble es costó total.

Desventajas: The price online was approx. $56 for the three days but when I got to the counter they told me that insurance was $50 per day so I ended up paying 3 times for insurance and had no clue!
Be ready for the unexpected
Ventajas: After driving the kia optima for 15 days, I came to appreciate it's acceleration, great brakes and comfort.
Desventajas: Always check with your home insurance before renting in Mexico. The car was cheap to rent at 178.00 but mandatory liability added at $29 a day with $800 on hold on your credit card or $59 per day full coverage with a $200 hold on your card. Ended up paying $733 for entire trip. In Cancun there is no booth at the airport. Ace shares a space with Fox Car Rentals. Called them but they never sent a van. We finally walked our luggage across the street from the airport to find their office. The RAVs we rented were not coming until nightime. They only had one RAV in their inventory so they offered us the new Optimas. Every step was a long wait. The best part was the reliability of the car and returning it was quick. They did return us to the airport. Warning: If you get a traffic ticket in Mexico, police remove the license plate until you pay and show proof. You cannot return the car without its plates. Do not rent a car without plates as many policemen will stop you and demand a bribe. We met other tourists with this problem. We were targeted by police in Campeche because the car was a rental and we were foreigners. They nearly confiscated my brother's license and asked for a bribe of $108 which we paid.
Desventajas: Upfront cost of a required insurance was not disclosed. We found out after the fact that we had to buy 700.00 worth of insurance

Due to plane delays, the shit-show in customs and then NO ACE stand or person in the airport... finally made it to their Office 1:30- 2 hours behind schedule. The slimeball at the counter told me they no longer had my reservation... that they would make a new one and the new price would be U$60 per day with No Insurance Coverage or U$75 per day with full coverage. Decided to go to Hertz.... same day no reservation and full coverage, same car class U$45 per day. Clearly a scam at ACE

They canceled our reservation after we stepped out of the office to talk on the phone and then when we went in to reclaim they said they had no more vehicles. Poor company, AVOID AVOID. Terrible experience in Cancun
Ventajas: Price was attractive
Desventajas: The 7-seater that we had booked in Cancun was unavailable when we got to the car rental and we were offer instead an...11-seater bus that neither my wife not I could drive confidently given the size. We were told that a Chevy Suburban might be available "in a couple of hours" but the car had not yet been returned by previous client. This failed to instill much confidence and we asked our booking to be cancelled. We hope that ACE will return the c.$800 that we paid for the failed rental as they failed to honor their part of the contract. At this stage, we will not recommend ACE to any one considering that on top of the money already paid we had to add some insurance (despite our credit card insurance blanket) which would have made the cost comparable to what we paid at Hertz.
Desventajas: Sraff could not accept that i decline insurance (i have CDW with my credit card) on the grounds that my credit card's number does not have bulge and the manual credit card processor cannot capture the numbers. They woukd not take an electronic deposit apparently because customers can cancel it, rendering useless for the car agency.
I had to pay for basic secondary insurance so that i could use my credit card and rent the car.
