Desventajas: The car was old, the cost was high, and the check-in was the WORST!! They had five people standing around and it took me an hour to get a car!

Ventajas: Poorly trained staff, tried to upsell insurance even though I’d already purchased some insurance on kayak site (agent told me that was worthless). At checkout they tried to charge me $660 for $330 quoted charge. Took a half hour to get “preferred customer” counter to reinstate quoted price.
Desventajas: CHECK YOUR FINAL RECEIPT BEFORE LEAVING LOT. Poorly trained staff on front and back end (at SFO and PDX), rude manager, and worst of all they double-charged me when I brought the car back. Took half hour at “preferred customer” counter to get them to take double charge off and charge quoted price

Desventajas: Upon arrival to SFO, we waited over an hour in line to check out. There were only 2 people available to assist customers and only 6 people ahead of us. For each party, it took between 10-15 minutes to finalize the reservation. The only questions I was asked were about insurance and gas. Otherwise, the person checking us out just typed on the computer for 10+ minutes. I will not use Avis again nor will I recommend it. I will use a company that just has a kiosk.

Slow tellers and fast salesmen
Ventajas: The cars were clean and new
Desventajas: The line was so slow because the tellers at the airport for pick up or chitchatting with customers and taking up too much time. When I did find a tell her to help me he did do everything really fast but then upsell me on a fancier model car and didn’t explain the total cost at the end which caught me by surprise so I eventually the next day return the car that I didn’t need

Avis had the best car rental deal in town
Ventajas: We got ourselves a full-size sedan to travel up and down the Pacific coast, and the car handled great. The car, a Toyota Camry, also was able to accommodate all of our hefty luggage with no problem. The Camry was stingy on gas, which saved us a lot of money when we had to fill it up upon its return to the Oakland airport. The young lady there was very helpful in getting us on our way to the shuttle, too.
Desventajas: Avis needs to let people know that it's located inside the Hilton. The mailing address is completely misleading, and there is absolutely no signage to help you find the place or to distinguish it from all the other car rental places on O'Farrell Street. Also, the woman behind the pickup counter kept trying to upsell us to an SUV after the sedan was already paid for and reserved. Don't do that, especially when the SUVs are gas hogs and gas is over four bucks a gallon!

Awesome
Ventajas: The easy pick up and drop off. The car itself was fantastic. Great on gas and comfortable to drive. The price was also awesome.

Desventajas: Kayak doesn’t offer an option to skip the line so we had to wait an hour just to show our drivers license. Additionally I had called customer service in advance to change my reservation to pick up the car at 11 instead of noon and was told no problem but the agent wanted to charge me an additional day even tho I was only going to have the car 8 hours total
