What a beautiful hotel! Driving through the main street i saw the hotel we were orignially going to stay at and i thought to myself, 'omg what have i gotten us into?!' But the Melanesian was wonderful. Definetly worth more than 3 stars. All the staff were very pleasant and happy to help with anything. Our room was great and only 10mins walking distance from the main street. LOVED IT!
Modern hotel with an execellent breakfast offering. Aircon struggled to keep the room cool. Reception and foyer stinks of smoke from the Casio. Telephone did not work in my room. Room service tried to deliver my rather average hamburger to the wrong room and the burger was subsequently delivered cold. Hotel double charged me for the room which I corrected on my return to Australia (refund was provided).
From the foyer this hotel had a tropical charm congruent with the tropical background. Hotel interior was simple and gave the illusion that a few decades had slipped away and left an 'original' which might have harboured a swathe of visitors from the occident. Not just the anonymity of a glass and steel beachfront behemoth there was an air of relaxation and adventure. That atmosphere was belied by the fast hum of many modern conveniences but could not disguise the aura of a lost time past and a more anachronistic haven. A wide range of ethnic and social guests meeting at the awesome pool and the freedom to feel an isolation from other guest that is privacy were strong points of this hotel. Only a short and interesting walk from Vila and the feeling of authenticity rather that a 'plastic' environ together with great service made this a valuable experience in Vanuatu.
