Many things were very good. Housekeeping staff were very good. Breakfast staff very good. Check in and final check out staff (the same person) was excellent. Check out was not good. The first man I approached hardly acknowledged me and then made no eye contact. He didn't follow through with my request for bellhop service. Had to call on 5 consecutive days to get a simple answer as to whether or not I had left an item in my room.
The ease of attending performances at the VBC without having to rush. We live in Madison county, but it's nice to have a night out with the girls. The show was great, the hotel very poor for any price. Our room was so dusty you could write your name on every surface. The A/C didn't seem to work, the bathroom floor was damp when we checked in at 5 ish. One of our key cards didn't work on the garage parking or the room door. The clerk who checked us in seemed to be very bored with the whole process. The TV screen had something smeared all over it. We have stayed here before and know what good service and cleanliness is. I was sent a email asking what our preference for the room was, floor height, view, etc. I requested a room with a view of the park. Our view was of the roof at the VBC. Will not be staying with Embassy Suites for any other VBC performances.
Helpful staff. Clean. Parking garage with plenty of spaces (at the time at least. .. may vary at another time? ?) Internet (wifi) was 12$ additional on top of charges for the room.
We chose the hotel for the location, an easy walk from downtown for the city's marathon. We were pleasantly surprised by the size and luxury of the room, but even more thrilled by the warm and helpful staff - especially at the front desk and among the housekeeping staff. Thank you!
*The price *New and modern *Comfortable beds *Close to the canal downtown *Good selection of items to purchase at the front desk *USB outlets by the bed *Large walk-in closet *Wifi worked great. We were able to watch a movie on Netflix on the iPad with no problems. *The layout of the room is SO WEIRD! The toilet is completely separate from the shower and both are awkward. We were in a double queen room and the toilet room was at the foot of the one of the beds with only a sliding door with "frosted" glass for privacy. I think the wrong glass was used on our room because you could totally see what anyone was doing in there down to the the color of their clothes and facial expressions. There was a tiny sink with a small mirror in the corner, so using the mirror to get ready was impossible. There was no hand towel bar so the only place to put a towel was over on a shelf above the toilet. Also, no hand soap was provided, only bar facial soap. I don't typically interchange hand and facial soap so it seemed weird not to have hand soap. The shower room was at the foot of the other bed with another sliding door. This door offered more privacy but still it's weird that you can't use the bathroom and then take a shower without walking out in front of the people you're staying with and going into the other room. It's like the designer was trying too hard to be modern and failed. *I like that there was breakfast and the selection was ok but I was disappointed it was pretty much the same thing all 3 days. Scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, and seasoned potatoes. There was also a waffle maker out 2 of the days and a selection of cereal/oatmeal with toppings, bagels, toast, muffins, coffee, etc.
The room was clean and bathrooms cleaned up every day. Bed was comfortable. The shop was a little small for such a large hotel, breakfast was OK but not that good, and overall for that high price in Alabama I was expecting the common spaces to be a little better. The staff overall was nice except for one person that consistently felt like it was a chore to reply to my question.
